Let’s just be honest, y’all- the first day of school in August may be most people’s mental transition into Autumn, but this Southern summer heat isn’t going anywhere for a while! But instead of getting hot and bothered by the stifling temperatures and humidity, I’m here to help with some Southern Summer Date Night Ideas to help you beat the heat!
TAKE THEM OUT TO THE BALL GAME
Baseball season lingers until end of September, so buy some cheap seats at your hometown stadium and gorge on peanuts and hotdogs! This one’s easy to make a double date, and even if you spend more time talking than watching the game it’s guaranteed to be fun all around!
RENT A BOAT AND HEAD TO THE LAKE
Whether it’s kayaks, paddleboards, a pontoon boat, or canoe, I can almost guarantee there’s somewhere at your nearest lake that will rent you a vessel for the day! Nolan and I live right on a river and our kayaks have gotten so much use this summer when it was too hot to do anything else. The wind off the water is a cool welcome and there’s nothing so refreshing as a cold beer, in a boat, under the summer sun!
MAKE FANCY LEMONADE FOR PORCH SIPPIN’
If you need a date that’s simple and stress-free, grab yourself a bunch of lemons, some sugar, and get creative making lemonade together! Mix in sweet tea, freshly muddled rosemary, crushed blackberries, club soda, or even some spiced rum until you find your favorite! Pour that concoction into beautiful glasses and head out to the porch/patio for some quality time.
ATTEND A LOCAL FESTIVAL
The season may be winding down, but you’ll be amazed by how many summer festivals will still fill your local calendar! Food trucks, live music, and amazing people watching make for an excellent day out in my book. Try searching online for your local city website (or a nearby city if yours is very tiny) you’re sure to find a festival worth attending.
GRAB A BLANKET AND GO STARGAZING
My favorite time to stargaze is the very end of summer. The nights are still comfortably warm, but the sky begins getting clearer and clearer as we push nearer to Autumn. And really- there’s something about laying out on a soft blanket with the night sky sprawled above you that inspires big dreaming and great conversation. Extra bonus points if the night is accompanied by camping (even in your own backyard) and marshmallow roasting.
